"Trees and rocks are an indelible fixture of the western landscape. Their beauty can be dramatic or can cause one to reflect on the quiet solitude of open spaces. I paint trees and rocks not only because they are such an iconic element of the American west, but because they are ultimately abstractions. In the gnarled tangles of tree branches and the biomorphic swelling of rock formations I can lose myself as an artist. I am free to explore the formal concerns of line, texture, color and composition."
